James Davenport was the captain of [[The Mariner's Fortune]]. He was known as a strategic man.

## Family

James was a devout family man. Married to [[Sara Davenport]], together they had 3 sons: [[Isaac Davenport]], [[Nathaniel Davenport]], and [[Jacob Davenport]]. 

On [[First Day]] 1724 his family gifted him a [[Diary of James Davenport|diary]][^1], in which he kept a close account of his final days on The Mariner's Fortune.
